Leading up to the second union the Aontan nations underwent a series of gradually less violent conflicts, the last of which is generally considered to be either the Phoenian-Sahren terror war or Sahren Civil War. Phoen and Soir tekkia were controlled by Phoenia along with territories in Iroa and Wuste, while Sahr controlled the most valuable of the Egercian territories. The two countries had compatible political systems and signed an agreement in 2149 binding them together in preparation for the reformation of Aontas. In 2150 the two countries united into a loose federation with Cath at it's centre as the Federation of Greater Aontas.
