Design and Construction
High Admiral Lynæ Samatov's Plan Æ sought to bring gaps Sahren doctrine by calling for both large destroyers and small destroyers which would form a layered defence against submarines and aicraft for carrier and cruiser deployments. By this time the inadequacies of the Sys-class Small Destroyer were well known, and the mistakes would not be repeated on the new design.
Initial specifications demanded only one 127mm main gun and a 76mm secondary in the rear, with and four Tulerkek CIWS while displacing 2.5 times more than the Sys-class. Draft and freeboard were still kept narrow but to allow practical deployment outside the Sea of Aontas the ship was to feature a forecastle raised by a metre. Despite the increased size the design still the space for a vertical launching system. Deck mounted launchers of the early Feadan Ordanas System were considered but ultimately rejected for lack of deck space. Lacking any alternative the missile cells were integrated into the superstructure at a 45 degree angle, which turned out successful enough to be deployed on many succeeding Sahren ships.
