Aontas (Aontan: Aontas [eɪnt̪æs]), also known as Dara Aontas (lit. 'second union'), is a multinational federation located in south-west Kafrica and south-east Kolus. The country is externally bordered by the Confederation of Kolus to the west, Solaria to the north and the United States of Central Kafrica to the east. It is otherwise surrounded by ocean, with the Kolusian Sea to the north, Gulf of Iro to the south-west, and the Armando Sea to the east.
The current iteration of Aontas is a result of the renewal of the union following an agreement between the Federal Union of Phoenia and the Sahren-Bastian Commonwealth in 2149. The context for the reunification follows the costly Sahren Civil War, in which Phoenia backed the Sahren Republican faction which was ultimately victorious. Seeking greater economic and political integration post war, the two nations signed the Cath Accords. Among the agreements, Sahr was promised membership in exchange for jurisdiction over the provinces of Rockfor and Baile.
Aontas as it now stands is comprised of 5 nations that comprise its federal subjects. In decreasing order of population: Tekkia, Sahrland, Iroa, Chosaint and Granderia. In the past, Bastia and Wuste were member states, but have since opted to join the Confederation of Kolus.
It covers an area of 114,224 km² and has a population of more than 51.25 million, making it among the smaller multi-national bodies just after the Imperial Union. The capital and largest city is Cath, which is situated on the eastern bank of the nations main strait. Other major cities are Maslouf and Khosa. Aontas encompasses a diverse range of cultures and ethnicities. The Aontan language group is in the majority, with 86.5% of the nation speaking a language in the group, mostly in Tekkia and Sahrland. Minority languages include the Iridian group, spoken by 10.8% of the nation's inhabitants and is common in Chosaint, Granderia and Iroa. Lastly, 2.7% of the nation speaks languages of the Koloan group, none of which are official languages.
