Development

The concept of the KÆM-24 can be traced back to the Abzalev Astrakhan but for varying reasons did not begin development until 2165. President Kelbert-dua Tengin sought to undo most of the actions of the previous liberal government. One of these changes was the development of a new fighter as the ADF-Type-85 was phased out in 2161 and the Sahren Republican Guard was using exclusively foriegn models from Zokesia and Phoenia.

We must fabricate the means of the defence of the perfect society we want to build in this corner of the world. If our aim is to create a perfect society, our national prestige should reflect it, and anyone across Kerbin should be able to see the efficiencies inherent in the Republican system
—Kelbert-dua Tengin

The programme was given out to Abzalev and Tsaregorodtsev Aviation specifically to avoid foreign competition sabotaging the development. Tsar got ahead of Abzalev early on as it was able to use Nuvalkan prototypes like the AE-22 and MAF-25 as reference. Already in the midst of industrial espionage of Cyten-Ward for the TSA-144, Tsar was able to implement the swing-wing mechanism by tech leaks, though this mechanism was incredibly unreliable and would not be properly finished until after Tsaregorodtsev quit the project.

Design

The most striking feature of the KÆM-24 is the variable geometry wing, which consists of a straight edge gunfighting mode and a 54 degree general flight mode. While in this 54 degree fold the elevators become ailervators to combat roll instabilities. Two Alkan type 2172 turbojets power the vehicle fed by two rectangular side mounted intakes. Underneeth the fuelselage is an internal weapons bay, and fore of this is a smaller weapons bay only capable of holding 20-25mm autocannons. A large variety of additional armament can be attached to the wings via external mount.
