The South Veiid Federal Railroad (reporting marks SVFR) is a Class I freight-hauling railroad that operates 35 locomotives in southern Fortis.

Founded in 2140, the South Veiid Federal Railroad, or SVFR, constitutes the partially re-nationalized railroad system of the former Laythia as a government owned and operated transportation network. While the majority of the Laythian railroads were originally privatized not long after the founding of Fortis, the Federal government was unhappy with the overall performance of the bulk freight companies on the line, and bought the majority of the lines in southern Fortis back. As a result, the SVFR now handles the bulk of rail freight in that region.

Tracks and Routes

SVFR maintains a mixed, dual gauge (1,524 mm Broad Gauge / 914 mm narrow gauge) Railway inherited from the former Laythian network. Although some company analysts have suggested a change to either a full Zokesian Style Narrow Gauge line (as seen in the Cortuga and Rio Mamb Western Railroad) or a full 1,524 mm Broad Gauge as a cost saving measure (Analysts suggest the long-term reduction in maintenance costs would offset the cost of ripping out one gauge of track), SVFR continues to maintain the current dual-gauge system.

The SVFR maintains full ownership over routes in 14 Cities, and partial trackage rights from the city of Laythi through Zerban and Ram in former Troakia. As the result of competition from Coastal Consolidated Shipping Co, The original line that ran direct from Ulkam to Fedithe was abandoned, as the CCSC's coastal bulk freighters can carry far more cargo on the route than SVFR could efficiently match.
