The AV-Type-52 Slabhra is an armoured personelle carrier originating from Sahrland designed to replace the AV-Type-46 Dætach
Development
Post war data analysis of the Sahren Civil War and requirements from the Vagani Campaign showed various issues with the Dætach which the Republican Guard sought to rectify with a new design. It was required to carry a full Rædhfilgruppa of five, reach at least the same speed as a Capal, be able to resist small arms fire, and to mount an IRM-30 autocannon.
The same manufacturer was chosen, though since they were produced primarily domestically a variety of firms produces Slabhras.
Description
The Type-52 is an 8 wheeled, variable armament, open top armoured personelle carrier, with capacity for 5 passengers and requiring two operators. It is powered by a quad LFO-electric turbine setup which allows for a top speed of 56km/h.
The troop compartment is armoured against rifle and machine gun rounds on the sides and open on top, which could be covered with a kevlar blanket for further protection. The open top design was theorised to provide a wider range of tactics during battle and superior situational awareness, though the vulnerabilities inherent were considered undesireable and the choice would not be seen in succeeding designs.
Entering and exiting the vehicle can be done by the door in the rear or climbing over the walls and out of the open top. Side doors were installed on the latest model before producted ended overall.
Initial models lacked the same periscope system as the Dætach and instead opted to protect the gunner with a gun shield. This was considered too vulnerable, and soon the vehicle returned to the periscope system.
Service history
Although designed for the Vagani Campaign, the war was long over by the time the Type-52 entered production.
