The Abzalev Antihero is the largest seaplane ever produced. It has 12 engines and is manufactured and supported by Sahren aircraft manufacturer Abzalev Design Bereau.
After the success of the Abzalev Arrow and the purchase of Alkan Motor Works, Abzalev sought to open a transport subsidiary and seek an advantage with flying-boats so large they need to be classified as flying-ships.
The maiden flight of the Abzalev Antihero would occur on Gardo 3rd, 2173 after 11 years of developement. The prototype would later be named the "Murphy's Law", and her sister ship "Skye's the limit!" finished production on the 23rd of Glapesch, 2175.
Development
Abzalev Antihero
In 2162 Abzalev devised the plan to create Kerbin's largest flying boat. Developement proved a challenge as soon as it began as something of this scale was never attempted by abzalev before. The plan was to effectively scale up an Abzalev Arrow. As with the previous Abzalev flying-boats, they chose the Alkan Tractor Company Type-2162. Ten of these were mounted on the wings, which themselves were 98.6 meters wide. Testing found this underpowered and two more were mounted.
Design
The Abzalev Antihero was projected to be 200 tonnes and 120 meters long in the beginning. The actual size turned to 157 tonnes and 72 meters long, making it wider than Sahren Navy destroyers but not longer. The hull was more refined than previous abzalev airframes, along with the wings, cockpit, cabin, and tail. Issues with tail detonation were also avoided as the aicraft could no longer detonate and could no longer slam the tail hard enough to detonate anymore. Many design features were identical to as they were on the Abzalev Arrow, such as the wings, hatch placement, the choice of a dedicated flight cockpit and landing cockpit, the throttle system and the communications mast.
The Abzalev Antihero was incredibly stable, had favourable water performance, and a takeoff speed of 55m/s.
The interior of the Abzalev Antihero is luxurious even by passenger liner standards. Abzalev knew the only way to compete in this market would be with quality instead of speed or quantity. The Abzalev Antihero is also capable of lifting 120 Tonnes of cargo, often moving both freight and passengers at the same time.
The Abzalev Antihero was a product of the airfield insufficiency in Sahrland, as flying boats were needed due to a lack of airfields, airfields became unused and unprofitable, continuing the cycle. The Abzalev Antihero did not feature any landing gear at all as airfields large enough did not exist in the entirety of Sahrland, and these were intended to be used across Kolus.
Variants
Incidents
During prototype testing, the Abzalev Antihero "Murphy's law" took off moving backwards while testing reverse sailing. The pilot then flew it backwards as it climbed and decided the only way to save the ship would be to gain altitude and set them to forward throttle once again. "Murphy's law" managed to stop midair and move forwards enough to pull out of the dive, narrowly avoiding waves. No further use of this maneuver has ever been permitted or tested.
