Rachel Kerman (27th August 2016 - 7th June 2098) was the President of the Republic of Krome. One of the principal founders of the country after piecing together the fractured remnants of the Lovatican Republic, she presided over Krome's growth from a minor backwater to ostensibly a regional Kafrican power. She is known for her extremely authoritarian, yet socially liberal, approach to governing, which gathered the anger and distaste of the general population as well as nations and corporations. She was elected in 2051 at the founding of the Republic, and was reelected in 2060 by a wide margin, and again in 2070 with nearly 80% of the vote. Her actions gained her international notoriety, particularly during the early years of her presidency. In her later years she presided over the downfall of Krome from a regional power back into a minor backwater. It is somewhat accepted that Rachel Kerman is single handedly responsible for creating the explosive nature of Kafrican politics to this day, despite being almost universally hated.
Early Life
Rachel Kerman was born on Minmus on the 27th of August, 2016, to Eliza Roshenko and Dan Kerman. Shortly thereafter, she migrated along with her parents to the island of Diosca, then under Tekkian control. Even at a young age, she proved to be extremely bright, making high marks in school, and even moving a few grades ahead of her peers. However, when New Grestin formed and took control of Diosca, she returned to Minmus with her mother, while her father remained behind as a naval officer.
In the late 2030s, after the rise of the Lovatican Federation, she and her mother returned to Diosca to rejoin her father. Around this time, she began to show interest in following in her father's footsteps, and entered the Lovatican naval academy, graduating early and quickly rising through the ranks to become a captain, shortly before her father was promoted to full Admiral and placed in charge of the Naval academy itself. in 2038, she was approached by agents of the Lovatican Intelligence Agency and offered a position, which she accepted, and quickly became a top ranking agent. In 2040 she was in attendance at the party hosted by Ivan Stihlovitch in Arcovy celebrating the formation of the UASR, and was seen sneaking out of the room shortly after Stihlovitch and Kwartz after their infamous night together.
in 2045, after having attained the rank of Admiral, she was visiting her father at the Naval academy, when a former student entered the building, with the intent to assassinate the head of the academy. By the time she noticed the pistol in his hand it was too late, and he fired two shots into Admiral Dan Kerman's chest, and immediately fled the scene, leaving Rachel desperately trying to save her father. Her efforts were unsuccessful, and Dan Kerman bled out as his daughter sobbed over him. Police were never able to apprehend the shooter, however, it is doubtful he survived the turmoil of the following years, and Rachel Kerman ordered Kroman intelligence not to look for him because, in her own words "[they] aren't going to find him. At least, not alive." Many sources believe that the assasination was part of a larger conspiracy running deep within the Lovatican government, but there is little evidence leading anywhere, and most theories are highly speculative.
Fall of Lovatica and Founding of Krome
Shortly after her father's assasination, she vanished for a number of years, shortly before instability began to grow within the country. She reappeared shortly after the fall of the Lovatican Federation, commanding the remnants of the Lovatican Navy. While most people believe the timing of her disappearnace and reappearance to have been influenced by the fall of Lovatica, it is believed by some to have been the other way around, due to the large number of disappearances of increasingly prominent government officials during the time shortly before the fall. Using the power vacuum caused by the fall of Lovatica, Rachel Kerman convinced the population that she could lead a country occupying the lands of what was once their own country, this was backed up by the remnants of the Navy that she had under her.
When she convinced the Lovatican Peoples that she could lead them, she established the Republic of Krome. Immediately importing high altitude bombers[1] from Fegeland. In her early tenure of Kroman President she was seen as a benevolent leader, helping other nations under threat[2]. Protecting Krome from Grestinian AI and other threats through diplomacy, propelled by a Solari/Krome arms deal, which followed from an outreach initiative, onto the international stage.
The Karthrax Grestin affair
The Comer Purchase
In the apparent abundance of funds in the Kroman Treasury, under the direction of officials, Rachel Kerman approached Vieno to purchase the region of Comer. This was the primary cause for Krome's ascension into KATO via affiliate status as Kafrican tensions boiled over into the Comer war resulting in the treaty of Comer. With KATO support behind her, she began to conspire with east kafrican minor powers to bring down Grestin once and for all. This began her long fall from being regarded as a benevolent leader to becoming an international disgrace.
The Conspiracy
In early 2065, with minor eastern kafrican nations such as Karthrax, Valeria and NKS giving her an oppertunity to show Grestin her superiority. This was a move which backfired into the Kroman Crusade, resulting in Krome's expulsion from Joolian Federation and KATO.
Later life
In her later life, still serving as President of Krome, she was seen as a thorn in the side of Kafrican affairs generally. It was her attitude which caused the Kafrican wars which brought the start of over a half century of near constant fighting in Kafrica.
Death and legacy
Following a staged friendly fire incident between UIF and Strelkan forces, Rachel Kerman accepted an offer to hold a peace conference to settle the issue in Diosca. Present was General Vikus and Enouch Fournloke, who was carrying a ricin strip on his hand, upon shaking his hand Rachel Kerman subsequently died of Ricin poisoning. In the aftermath Kroman authorities attempted to play the incident off as a poisoning by Pankate Operatives posing as her cooks. It is unknown why she accepted the offer from Krome's enemies to hold a conference of peace in Diosca. Her legacy around the globe is that of scorn and distaste for her name
Assasination attempts
Rachel Kerman suffered many assassination attempts during her life, some closer than others.
- Shot twelve times by a Carsodonian Diplomat at a conference
- Kicked in the chest by Georgy Stithlovich[3]
Appearance
Contemporarily her appearance was said to be that of a woman much younger than her years, Kroman propaganda stated that this was due to her many anti-aging treatments given to her. In actuality, according to diaries and testimony from those who saw her, it was merely painted propaganda and digital image editing.
