The Sahren Republican Guard is the main land based military organization of Sahr. It follows the federalised military system of Aontas and is therefor de-jure part of the Aontan armed forces.
History
Civil war origins (2144-2146)
The Sahren Republican guard was officially created upon the beginning of the Sahren Civil War. Republican Guardsmen differed from militiamen as they were professionally trained and were given higher priority for equipment. A majority of the early Republican Guard was made of recruits found in Phoenian Egercia between 2139 and 2144, Royal armed forces defectors, or covertly trained Phoenian troops, however new Sahren recruits would eventually also fill the ranks. Phoenian and Zokesian equipment and military advisors were instrumental to transforming the Republican Guard into a modern fighting force.
Vagani Campaign (2146-2153)
After the withdrawal of the united front and the end of the civil war the milita was disbanded leaving the small Sahren Republican Guard to fight the war in the west. The Vagani campaign was beset with supply shortages and guerilla warfare. Although successful in weakening the united front beyond any relevant threat, many casualties were taken and it created a strong anti war attitude in Sahrland despite the media censorship laws.
Forever Peace= (2153-2197)
The forever peace marked a change in Sahren foreign policy to isolationism, preferring to send in local militias for domestic crisis and the Korych for international interests. Military funding fell to the lowest in Sahren history, and to this day some uniforms and equipment from the civil war are still issued.
Aughtafael coup (2197)
The Republican guard stood with the government during the Aughtafael coup, though it could do little as the coup began in Bastia and the Korych and Bastian Army were the only organizations close enough to mount an effective response. Protests in support of the coup were supressed by the Republican guard with water hoses and tear gas.
Organization
Components
The Republican guard is heavily tied to the Republican Militia, the active branch of which contains no members and is only activated at times of crisis, the reserve militia functions as a reserve for both the Republican Guards and the Militia. Other local militias existed like the Chadastok People's Militia or the Strecha, though many of these were eventually disbanded.
