Shive, (/ʃɪːv(eɪ)/; Namjjog: /sɪbʊ/), officially the Most Serene Republic of Shive, is the smallest nation on Kerbin by area. A city-state and republic, it is situated on East Kolus along the Western Norian Steppe by the Sea of Aontas bordering Viskaria to the east, with Neo-Mechani and Azuria to its immediate north. The majority spoken language is Namjjog. The country's territory comprises of the Walled City of Shive and the entirety of the Shiven Isthmus, above the Huncheon Lake System.

Inhabited by early Kolun Kerbals since at least 22,500 BCE, its proximity to the sea and access to fresh water has permitted its continued inhabitancy by the late Proto-Mambic peoples and the modern Samagi.

As a city, Shive's trade and extensive naval and later aerial history through the Sea of Aontas has influenced its maritime culture.

Shive is a developed country with emphasis on maritime commerce; it is heavily reliant on its state and civil fleet for defense and trade. Since the collapse of Mechani, it has established its third consular republic and became a protectorate of the Veiidic Commonwealth. It sees the highest GDP per capita and GDP growth in Kerbin.

Etymology

The country of Shive is named after the Shive River; the southern border of Shive. However, the origin of the river's name remains relatively unknown. Modern sources suggest that it means "life" or "bosom" in Proto-Mambic.

History

Prehistory

Kerbal inhabitance in Kolus began relatively late: circa. 200 CE, after the Axial Age. Comprising of migrations from the Western Norian Steppe, the Proto-Mambic developed a sedentary and agrarian lifestyle, sustaining off a pescatarian diet of maize, shrimp, and Aontan and Kolusian fish. Early Shiven dwellings were composed of baked soil and later animal hide. The first extinctions in the area, most notably the Aontan decapods and the erasure of most species of maize have been attributed to Kerbal expansion. Nomadic in nature, the population gradually shifted east and became what would be the modern Samagi and later Aviennic, inhabiting Shive.

The Shiven inhabitants are suspected to have practiced rituals, with many communities bearing remnants of religious structures. Archaeological evidence has supported the idea that rituals of the like were conducted regularly and were often communal. These have been grouped into the Burric folk religion.

Samagi migration

The modern Samagi descend from the Mambic and Norian peoples; migrating across central Kolus over the course of four centuries. The Samagi descended from Root-Burric cultures, who were nomadic in nature due to the climate of the steppe. Their descendants, the Reposian, Mechani, and Aviennic cultures would become sedentary as they settled near the coast.

Feudal dynasties

The Western Norian Steppe would be home to many civilizations. One of the first major dynasties was the Jidae. According to legend, the city of Jidae (suspected to be east of modern day Shokon) was founded by an archer of the same name. However, the modern consensus was that Jidae became one of the first sedentary settlements west of the Mamb River Valley, and it gradually grew over the course of three hundred years.

Early republics

Historically, maritime transportation was considered a form of art very sacred to Shive. The rule of the law was often inspired by its naval counterparts.

Climate

Located on the Western Norian Steppe, Shive lies on a particularly depressed region of grassland. The highest point of Shive, a hill called Hyeongsong Pillar, is 300m above sea level.

Urbanization

Since 2120, urbanization in the Shiven Isthmus has drastically slowed down, with 63% of it covered and a projected 70% by 2230.

Government and politics

Shive is a diarchic republic run by two Consuls.

Military

With the exception of artillery, Shive bears no ground force. Instead, its manpower is allocated to ships overseas or aerial patrols in territorial waters.

Since independence, Shiven Air Command has intercepted and engaged numerous bogeys from neighboring nations. Of which, came an ace pilot with six kills over nineteen years, the Wings of Shive.

Shive has an extensive railway network. Spanning from the west Viskarian border to Cape Kuju, it transports both imported goods and people.

Demographics

Shive is an extremely homogenous nation, with almost an 100% Samagi population. However, there are some small communities of Kalbans, as well as minor Mechani concentrations.

Religion

The predominant religion in Shive is O Faith Patrism, with 61% of the population being adherents. Throughout the late 16th and 17th centuries, the spread of ideas and the pioneering of maritime travel permitted the spread of religion. Patrism made contact with various coastal towns along the Kolusian Sea. However, these populations have since decreased and have been concentrated in Shive following five centuries of persecution, seeing widespread adoption after the O Period.

The rise of Novenadian emigrés have led to a slight increase in the number of Reformed and Veiidic-Baskayan Patrists, comprising 0.6% and 0.2% of the population respectively.

Second to Patrism, the rest of the Shiven population identify as areligious.

Reposian folk religion maintains small communities in the western rural areas of Shive, comprising 2% of the population.
