Background
In the last years of the Sahren Civil War, the people's army and national salvation army had been beaten so badly they were forced out of any major urban areas and united into a united front as they withdrew from the country. In the confusion many important officers of the Labour Party failed to escape the rapidly worsening situation around Slovale and devised plans to withdraw from the continent altogether, most notably Premier Anastasia Otsahrlandiagorodtsev. While the Republicans did have overwhelming air superiority at this time, fuel shortages from Operation Tetraethyllead prevented all but the minimal sorties after Slovale was taken.

Explosion
It was assumed for many years following the incident the explosion was caused by 20mm cannonfire interacting with fuels onboard. Release of specific documents relating to the incident in 2176 revealed weapon fire was not the result at all, and in fact no ammunition was expended in the entire mission. The explosion instead was caused by a conflict onboard the aircraft at the time of interception. Phoenian politician Monn deCreggor was one of the important figures leaving on that particular flight, and the report states he punched a flight attendant for not stocking his branded soda. This led to an absolutely ludicrous series of positively besotten escalations aboard the aircraft eventually culminating in the spontaneous combustion of the entire vessel, rendering everyone onboard dead within picoseconds.
