Design and Development

The closing years of the 2100s saw the development push outwards toward the stars. Secret projects were being run in the System Commonwealth's testing labs on the far side of the Mun for a powerplant to revolutionize travel to the outer planets and beyond. With the engine slowly being developed, CWI partnered with the Systems Commonwealth to develop a robust long-haul platform capable of withstanding the brutal heat required from the prototype engine, as well as a robust frame to attach bulk cargo to. The design was built around an octagonal structure, with eight hardpoints for palletized cargo and four large fuel tanks. To keep the cargo shielded from the nuclear engine, the length of the craft was stretched and two massive radiator arrays affixed aft of the cargo mounts.

Theoretical calculations suggested the new craft would be able to haul 30,000 tons of cargo from Kerbin to Jool without refuel, and its construction was approved by CWI headquarters in 2205, following a successful test of the Nuclear Fusion "Pletelyos" engine. Construction was completed at Wardian Korfu Shipyards, Minmus, in early 2207, and its first test flight would haul the Morser-Class Battleship BB-08 Kercia to Laythe for display as a museum exhibit.

As the first Determination was enroute to Jool, CWI engineers built upon the lessons learned from the first flight and unveiled the Determination II, an even heavier haul variant with over 100,000 ton capacity to Jool. The modularity of the design allows for production of any size or mission requirement, from short-haul variants to Interstellar travellers, the Determination-Class features a wide variety in its length, weight, and mission capabilities.
