Dugthail is one of the capitals of Sahr. It is the most populous city in the nation and the home of the Sahren monarchy.
Etymology
The name Dugthail is derived from Duga (dock) and Thail (town), meaning the name could be translated as "port city" or "land of ports". Although Dugthail is now an inland city, it used to be connected to both the () and () rivers, which is generally considered reason fo the name.
The 2109 linguistic reform act changed the name to Dugthæl as it introduced Æ as a letter which retroactively replaced AE and AI combinations. The Y double consanant clause was not added to Dugthæl in any official capacity, and the spelling Dygthæl only appears in various informal writings from residents. In current times, Dugthæl and Dugthail are used interchangably.
History
Settlement in the region can be traced back to prehistoric times. Dugthail's founding as a city was a result of formative era Tekkia, which was succeeded by periods of local self governance until it was absorbed into the nation of Sahr in 2106.
Formative era
The city was founded in the Formative era for traders from Solaria and the northwestern highways. The city began to expand to facilitate influx of these traders. At this time several smaller harbour towns were created on the coast which would transport goods from ship to Dugthail, to then be sent further south. There is evidence of Burric practices in burials but this is disputed.
2040s onward
From the 2040s Dugthail had limited self governance as it grew. Burric raids from the northwest were common. From 2160 onward it is confirmed the Chevspendic horde were part of these Burric raiders. To combat these raids, walls were erected around the city centre which still stand to this day thanks to extensive preservation and repair efforts.
Sahren ownership
Chevspendi settlers arrived in 2106 as part of a plan to settle the horde into a centralised civilization. Dugthail was peacefully annexed and temporarily became the capital until the founding of Khosa in 2112. Dugthail remained the economic centre and most populous city despite Khosa's primacy.
In 2144 Dugthail became the temporary capital of the Sahren republicans and by 2146 was officially the home of the Sahren monarchy. The Sahren parliament and Presidential office were located in Khosa creating a dual capital system. Dugthail was somewhat immune to the Hysteria of 2160 as it did not take significant damage during the Sahren civil war.
Government
Dugthail resides in province of the same name, and the county of Central Dugthæl which contains both Dugthail and the neighboring city of Khosa, which is the county capital.
Economy
The industrial valley of Dugthail produces the most steel of the country at 9372 tonnes per yer on average. The majority of this is transported to Klensagrad to be manufactured into goods and ships.
Transport
Due to how the walls constricted development, the tram systems found in most sahren cities could not be replicated in Dugthail without unreasonable redesigns. Instead a trolleybus system was implemented along with passenger trains.
Demographics
At the time of the 2200 census, the population of the city whose ethnicity was known was :

Geography
The city centre is located on a hill, and the rest of the city spreads out over two other nearby hills. Dugthail was initially founded between two rivers, but erosion gradually moved those rivers apart leaving Dugthail as one of the largest cities in the world not directly built on or near a body of water. Until 2151 there were no pipelines connecting it to water sources, so it was forced to rely on a system of wells and rainfall.
Climate
The local Dugthail region is the easternmost stretch of the Western Norian Steppe. The region recieves a significant amount of rainfall more than the deserts to it's south and serves as an important site for food production.
