New Rison

New Rison, also known sometimes as the Royal Colony of New Rison is a colony established by the Pan-Veiidic Commonwealth (PVC) and the Confederacy of Atreus located on Minmus. It serves to host many of the Atreus Aerospace Command's flag facilities, transferred from their previous location of New Corvus.

Etymology

Much like its sister colony, New Corvus. New Rison is named in honor of existing major cities located in Atreus, with New Rison being named in honor of Rison.

History

Pre-Colonization

As the small military outpost of New Corvus was completed in the mid-2190s, the Atreian monarchy under Queen Morgase II began to discuss the ideas of expanding their colonial desires to more celestial bodies, with their first target of colonization being the icy moon of Minmus.

The yet unnamed colony would serve as a secondary seat of power to the Atreian monarchy in case of a disaster, as well as a refueling outpost and staging ground for future colonial efforts into both the inner and outer planets. Additionally, as the Pan-Veiidic Commonwealth grew in size both territorially and economically, what would become New Rison would turn into a symbol of economic strength as the Commonwealth moved into the 23rd century.

Colonization Efforts

Following approval for a deadline of 2204 by Morgase II in 2199, the Veiid Colonial Administration (VCA), under Atreian leadership, issued out design requirements of a small colony ship to do service from low Kerbin orbit (LKO) to Minmus with sufficient enough capacity to do continuous, ten day sorties to and from each planetary body.

Alongside this, the VCA also issued design requirements for a Single Stage to Orbit (SSTO) spaceplane with a 36 passenger capacity to transfer colonists from the surface of Kerbin to LKO using existing civilian infrastructure, this contract would be awarded to Starline Aerospace in 2202 and to their design of the SL-26.

Beginning efforts in 2202, the VCA ordered fifty-two Type-2202 Colony Ships alongside a single SL-26 to ferry colonists to the moon, with construction completing and becoming operational in late 2202, beginning transport missions in January of 2203.

Simultaneously, the Atreus Aerospace Command dispatched AASC Mender (ARD-01) and AASC Helping Hand (ARD-02) from their stations in orbit of the Mun to Minmus to assist in constructing logistical infrastructure to refuel the fleet of colony ships and facilitate their transport down to the service. As the stations were not completed until April of 2203, ferrying operations were helped by AASC Bakan (CVA-07), AASC Running on Empty (CVA-08), and AASC Trinity (CV-05) until the station became operational.

Geography

Built in and around the rocky terrain of Minmus, New Rison is almost entirely located underground, with surface installations for its spaceport and some industrial facilities that would be unsafe to be entirely contained underground.

Due to its subterranean nature, the colony is multilayered and nearly labyrinthian to house its 402,000 residents without overcrowding. The hallways and corridors of the colony are vast in size and allow its citizens to walk freely throughout the colony.

The majority of New Corvus is Atreian, making up nearly 35% of the population. Illishiran is the second largest ethnic group in New Corvus, making up 20% of the population.
