The Ilúsáid raidhfil mór 30mm (Multi-use large rifle 30mm) is a multi-purpose autocannon produced by Sahrland and still sees use in a heavily upgraded version today.
Design
Work began on the IRM-30 in 2128 as the Sahren royal armed forces sought to reform into a more effective fighting force to strike back against the Kravsmad-Medraria alliance. To save production time they were based on the Zokesian KPW1 which was readily available on the international market. Initially the mounted guns were shielded with 20mm of armour only on the front, but later models extended the shield to the sides and top leaving only the rear and underside vulnerable to small arms fire. A handheld version was proposed but never developed.
It fired a 30mm shell at 960m/s. It had 65 degrees of elevation with 17 of this being depression, as the hilly terrain of Egercia would neccessitate this.
History
The first IRM-30s were used defensively as anti-personelle weapons in the War of the Egercias. As they were mass adopted it was found this was the only use it excelled at, as it performed poorly against aircraft and armour. Starting in 2132 the full 360 degree traverse was used while being towed by Capal. This was shown to have a large risk of spooking the capal or toppling the gun carriage altogether, so this was forbidden by the end of the war.
