Casualties and Losses

The Phoenian Civil War was a conflict fought internally within Phoenia between 2136 and 2138, with external powers intervening either directly or through economic support. It consisted broadly of two occasionally overlapping fronts. In the East, the Federal War was fought between Tekkia and the rebelling Chosaint and Granderia republics over the administrative status of the two within the Union of Phoenia. Most of the fighting occurred inside the borders of Chosaint and in the areas surrounding Granderia. Tekkia would eventually relent and restore the federal republics as independent members of the union.

The conflict in the west is known as the Iro-Nuvastian War and was fought over control of the Wurste Protectorate. It began when property disputes in the city of Tardide boiled over into a military police crackdown that saw 50 residents and business owners, mostly Nuvan in origin massacred. Fearing a potential ethnic conflict endangering the Nuvan minority, Nuvastia marched on Kecha and installed a friendly regime, leading to a conflict with Iroa. During the war, Carsodonia would briefly intervene to recover territory lost in the Purple Revolution. As the Federal War drew to a close and the other union members backed Iroa, Nuvastia abandoned its support for Wurste which was then brought under Iroan protectorate once again.

The war occurred during the ongoing Phoenian-Sahren Terror War and would see a significant escalation of SSR activity in Egercia

Prelude

Following Tekkia's defeat by the Grestian United Front and confined to just its holdings in Kulge, the previously independent Iridian federal associate states of Chosaint and Granderia were merged with Phoen Tekkia as substates within the federal system and further divided into provinces. This was undertaken during the early Cléireach administration which claimed that Tekkia would be vulnerable to outside attacks and lose its position on the world stage if it remained disorganized. The constitutionality of the move to annex the federal republics was dubious as it was conducted without the necessary 2/3 majority in their parliaments with the Tekkian executives claiming that a simple majority was sufficient under the current national emergency. The vote to certify annexation also occurred in the presence of and coercion by Federal Armed Forces dispatched to secure the territories.

Cléireach, now the Chancellor of Phoenia had assured the populations of Granderia and Chosaint that the measure was temporary until Tekkia could secure its stability and that the associate states would again be promoted to their former position of autonomy. However, a coalition of Tekkian nationalists alongside moderate officials in favor of the status quo in the Federal Council would continually block measures to do so well after the fact. After the fourth attempt at introducing legislation to restore the federal status of Chosaint and Granderia within Phoenia was shot down, the former leader of the Chosaint caucus Evraz Zaman delivered a speech condemning the body and walked out, joined by all of his colleagues in parties representing the former states and sympathisers in other districts.
