The SN Ken-Arai (No.8) is a stone battleship built by God and operated by the Sahren Navy. It is one of the islands north of Slovale and houses a naval fortress.
Construction and Commission
God made the island several million years ago when shaping Kerbin. It is strategically positioned to police traffic flowing in or out of Slovale and fortress construction began not long after the conquest of Slovale by the Chevspendi.
Operational history
Pozhar Revolts
After the revolutionaries seized control of Slovale they laid siege to SN Ken-Arai. Dysfunction in the Sahren naval communication at the time led to a paralyzed leadership, thus leaving Ken-Arai entirely on it's own. A small landing force of 200 revolutionaries attempted to seize the ship, which was manned by 61 sailors at the time. By the third hour of the assault the revolutionaries called it off due to high casualties, suffering 46 dead and 80 wounded and only injuring one sailor from Ken-Arai.
Sahren Civil War
Upon the start of the Sahren Civil War the fortress was only manned by 27 sailors, with provisions for a hundred stowwed away. Lacking any orders from the rest of the navy, they fortified their position and pursued a policy of neutrality. Labour party and National salvation ignored the fortress despite intense fighting just south in the Siege of Slovale. Both sides believed that after the war was over Ken-Arai could be made to surrender, and that the supplies and leadership of the ship would be vital for building their new navy.
By the time of the Republican conquest, kapitan Konpala Ouli declared the formation of the United front an act of aggression against the ship, and that it forced their hand to seek Republican protection. This manuever successfully avoided any of the ship's crew becoming prisoners of war and saved their careers by facilitating the reintegration of the navy rather than dissolution and reconstruction.
Vagani campaign
Republican leadership was interested in the idea of firing siege artillery from the island to united front positions far inland. The project was abandoned shortly after it was proposed, as accuracy could not be garunteed and other forms of artillery already proved worthwhile.
Popular culture
The locals of Slovale often joke about Ken-Arai being the largest ship in existance, as in 2189 comedian and actress Saoirse Thazard calculated the mass of the vessel to equal around 42,240,000 tonnes, claiming "Sahr has the largest navy in the world]].
A popular song called "Sahren ship Wide Island" is the unnoficial anthem of the vessel.
