Nemqurpolitik is a policy based on isolationism and autarky originating in Sahr. As a variant of neutrality, Nemqurpolitik seeks to avoid entanglements with other countries via trade or alliance.

Etymology

Nemqurpolitik comes from the Egercian words Nemqur ("lonely") and politik ("politics"), and literally translates as lonely politics or loner politics. The word likely originates from the 2109 linguistic reform in Sahr which mandated Egercian as the official language of the state.

Politics

Nemqurpolitik derives a majority of its politics from Isolationism. It states a need to either become militarily impossible to invade or to fall into the political sphere of a larger power for protection. All international relations under Nemqurpolitik are undertaken with the goal of acquiring something useful for the nation, not to make cooperative agreements. A nation which pursues Nemqurpolitik therefor must be prohibitively difficult to invade either diplomatically or geographically, be completely unreliant on global trade, and have something to gain by acting aggressively. If any of these qualifications are not met, Nemqurpolitik becomes unstable to maintain and will cease to exist in due time.

The largest example of Nemqurpolitik was Sahrland during the period between 2106-2150. Without any neighbors other than Phoenia and behind the straits of Aontas, Sahrland was impossible to invade without invoking intervention from Tekkia. This unstable period of Sahren history presented the perfect opportunity for the ideology to grow.

Economics

Economic self reliance is seen as a necessity for Nemqurpolitik as it prevents another nation from using economic reasons to bend to their demands.

Critique

The main criticism of Nemqurpolitik tends to align around the same criticism of neutrality and imperialism. While neutrality is often criticized as it helps the offender by leaving the defender alone, Nemqurpolitik is inherently antagonist-isolationist. In this way Nemqurpolitik seeks to cause harm to other nations directly rather than indirectly, and for the purpose of bettering one nation instead of two or more.
