The Fish War was a conflict revolving around Fish Island, a small Spearkan island near the South Pole, between Aquarian fish attempting to liberate the island with the help of Elysian support, and native fishermen attempting to enforce an anti-fish agenda, backed by Zokesia. The conflict ended in an orbital bombardment from the NMC, destroying everything on the island and leaving the fish to rule.
Cause
The war began when native fisherman called for assistance to overthrow the current, pro-fish, governor of the island, and were answered by Zokesia, who airdropped troops, and later vehicles, and imprisoned the governor. Nearby Aquarian fish would not stand for this racism and opression and deployed the Aquatic Operations Unit, blockading the Island in peaceful protest.
Battle
The fight began as the fishermen launched fishing boats refitted with weapons, prompting the Warhead Squids, squids implanted with 1,000lb bombs and trained to seek enemy boats, to respond. Squid 017 swam underneath the larger craft, then ascended, deploying ink to mask its presence, and striking amidships as his warhead detonated, enveloping the fishing boat in a flurry of explosions and snapping the vessels keel in two, before it sunk beneath the waves.
With the fishermen's unwarranted aggression shown, the disagreement had escalated to full scale war. A follow-up strike by Squid 020 destroyed a weaponised dingy, leaving the seas clear for crack Whale Marines to enter the fray. They began a concentrated bombardment of the island with their grenade launchers, destroying several AA vehicles and disabling several MBTs. In the process of this one Whale Marine was struck offshore on the nose with a 120mm cannon shell fired at it from the island, it suffered minimal trauma but returned to base for healing once the bombardment was completed.
With the airspace over the island free, a small convoy of Elysian tanks were airdropped onto the island, the completely flat plains of ice resulting in a vicious long distance shootout, from which the Fish Coalition eventually emerged superior.
Aftermath
NMC retaliated a week later with an orbital strike, completely melting the island, which was little more than a giant ice block, ending the conflict.
The Losses during the battle prompted minor reforms in the military tactics and crafts that Elysium employed.
