Juntoa Class Destroyer
Juntoa Class Destroyer
Template:Naval vehicles (military)The Juntoa is a class of destroyer designed by the Strelkan Apartheid government, and currently operated by the Strelkan Naval Junta. Initially it was designed as a small river based destroyer in order to defend the mouth of the Zimpopo river, Strelka's only access to the sea aside from south Bravis. The destroyer was designed to be operated in shallow waters, and be capable of long range operations with the rest of the Strelkan Fl
eet. Currently, the destroyer is only in use with the Strelkan Naval Junta, and all four are operated in the First Fleet.
History
Initially conceived as a frigate, the idea was quickly upgraded by the Strelkan Apartheid government to a destroyer classification, as a result of the Strelkan Government's current naval modernization program due to it's recent acquisition of Southern Bravis, now Palestrelka Island. The design, however, was not produced at all during the era, as the Apartheid Government collapsed into civil unrest before any could be constructed. Luckily, the plans were recovered and delivered to the newly constructed Fournloke City on Bravis. The design was quickly put into production in order to bolster the at-the-time weak Strelkan navy, and is currently the most modern ship in the fleet.
Design
The Juntoa class is a modern, small, and fast ship, designed to operate independently anywhere in the world for an extended period of time. Powered by 2 fuel cells, the destroyer has a classified, but long operating range. Ablative multi-layer armor, a technology adapted from Strelkan tanks, was used throughout the hull of the ship. It is designed to be operated with a crew of 24, but in emergencies can be manned by as low as 10.
Incidents
On September 16th, 2095, the Juntoa class destroyer "SNS Dinsmark" sailed to the coast of Nuvalka alongside fellow destroyer Jerabock in order to initiate an offshore peace conference between Surnay and Nuvalka. Shortly after the negotiations began, the Nuvalkan delegate unleashed a biological agent into the ship's airstream, unknown at the time to the people on board. Within 5 minutes, the agent began to kill and maim all on board, with the notable exception of four Strelkan Marines, who had gas masks on. At the same time, an explosion rocked the hull of the Dinsmark, tearing a hole in the forward bulkhead. As the ship began to sink, what was left of the crew and Surnish delegates were evacuated, and the Nuvalkan delegates were killed by Strelkan Marines. The incident lead to war between Strelka and Nuvalka.
