Venandi Class Submarine
Template:Naval vehicles (military)The Venandi Class Submarine is a class of attack submarine currently in service with the Vocavian Navy and is manufactured by Teuthida Dynamics. The Venandi Class are the fastest submarines ever built for the Vocavian Navy.
The Venandi Class was the first design manufactured by Teuthida Dynamics for the Vocavian Navy, and put into practice a number of design principles that had been developed and researched for many years. It was designed primarily as an attack submarine, intended to escort surface ships and hunt down enemy submarines, as well as prey on enemy surface ships.
Design
The Venandi Class was designed to be exceptionally fast and agile when submerged, enabling unparalleled performance as a hunter/killer submarine when engaging other submarines. It incorporates a powerful nuclear/electric engine mounted amidships to reduce hydrodynamic drag, permitting a top speed of 78 knots (40m/s). This unprecedented speed allows for the class to track down the vast majority of surface vessels, as well as outrun enemy submarines. The nuclear power source also offers essentially infinite range, therefore granting the Vocavian Navy a permanent and potent naval deterrent, with submarines of the class operating across the globe indefinitely.
The class is equipped with 16 torpedoes, offering a large quantity of firepower and enabling it to operate for extended periods without needing to rearm. The class is also equipped with a pair of M230 deck guns for attacking smaller surface ships when surfaced and for defence at close range.
Service History
2080-Present
The Venandi Class was the first naval vessel launched by the Vocavian Navy, and in 2080 the VN 'Taciturn' was launched to secure a naval presence before launching larger ships. By 2083, 16 boats of the class were in service and primarily in escort roles, though some are currently following undisclosed routes, patrolling international waters.
