The Kolus Road is a series of mega-highways originating in Kolus and at their height spread to Firesvar, Doren, Veiid, and Kafrica.

The Kolus Roads still operational as of 2200, with old roads overlaid.

Construction

Built initially in 2070 as an interstate system for Zokesia to trade with the nations of the eastern desert and NMC, it was expanded in the next two decades before the Second GKW threw the world's attention to other places. The road often passed through multiple nations, and were constructed at the cost of $25 million.

Prior to the Kolus Roads, the infastructure of Kolus was primarially two-lane paved roads and dirt paths, with railroads dominating long-distance travel. With the popularity of automobiles in Zokesia following the Zoke-Sovie War, the nation had finally been transitioning to car-centric travel. A unified road system to connect Kolus was vital for the stability of the region, as Zokesians had just fought in multiple stabilization wars across the desert, highlighting the need for efficient travel in the area. Initially funded by private ventures and later by the Zokeisan Government itself, construction began on the Inter-Kolus roads in 2070, connecting Zokeisa to Aontas, Valenia, and the NMC. The initial roadbuilding was completed in three years.

In 2075, the Firesvar road was completed, linking Halco, Elohim, NMC, and Zokesia. Three additional roads would be built within the UIF's borders, linking Gagriel to Halco and Aeseria to Fegeland. The Owlia-Delras Road connected the Trans-Laveskan road to Owlia, Delras, and Nautilus, and was completed by 2078.

The final Kolus Road was built inside of Aontas, and while there is some debate as to wether or not it is counted as a "Kolus Road" in the sense of inter-national transport, it was specifically built to conect to the existing Trans-Bastian highway, and therefore is counted. This road was primarially completed in 2085, and was expanded untill 2089, where it ended as far east as Slen.

Destruction of Kolus Road Sections

In 2089, Kerbomax was recruited by the CSD to cripple the major trans-continental roadway known as the Kolus Road. Kerbomax deployed 10 GU-50 aircraft escorted by 10 GU-27 fighters. Each GU-50 was armed with 5 1000lb JDAM bombs. Flying at 10km and at high speeds, the vehicles launching from Zokesia hit and crippled the Kolus road before breaking off and heading towards North Grestin and landing in a recently reestablished base in the nation. With the pilots and corporate officers celebrating a successful military operation.

The 2nd Great Kerbin war as a whole negatively impacted trade and prosperity of the roads, with many falling into disuse, disrepair, or complete destruction.

In the mid-2150s, despite pressure from the rest of the UIF, Laveska's liberal government ripped up the remaining Kolus Roads throughout the nation and replaced them with high-speed rail lines to facilitate internal trade. Border exchange stations were built, and the removal of these roads prevents long-distance commercial trucking of supplies through the nation of Laveska, reducing traffic and carbon emissions.

Reconstruction

In the late-22nd century, the reunification of the UIF meant renewed trade and stability across kerbin, and as a result the now delapitated Kolus Roads were showing their age and lack of maintenance. A multinational team from Elohim, Zokesia, and the UIF spent nearly $30 million on rebuilding the Kolus-Firesvar sections of the road to reopen trade. As of 2200, the section of the road between Zokesia and Elohim is still unfinished, with projected completion coming in the 2230s.
