General Nature Posion, Chemical weapon, Carcinogen, Tear agent

Fucsya, Fucsya gas, Fuschia, or Tyrian fog is a chemical agent infamous for it's usage in the Sahren Civil War and its terrible side effects. The colourless weapon has been banned by most nations, including Sahrland, which it originates from.

Etymology

The name comes from an Aontan word for a specific shade of purple, because tissues inundated with the toxin turn this colour. It's referrence as a gas is misleading, as the actual gas form of Fucsya dissipates too easily to be an effective hazard in all but the most congested of spaces. Instead, it is deployed as small droplets of liquid which can be carried in the air.

Effects

The immediate effects of Fucsya are blindness, coughing, burning sensation in the eyes and lungs, skin irritation, difficulty breathing, and chemical burns. These may also cause death if the victim is exposed for too long or possess other health complications like asthma. If exposed heavily, discolouration of particular tissues will occur after several hours as the body's attempts to flush out the toxin are overwhelmed. These tend to be areas of poor blood circulation such as the fingertips, or areas of particular sensativity like the eyes.

Studies conducted in 2162 revealed Fucsya as slightly carcinogenic, along with increasing the risk of respiratory and nerve disorders in the long term. It also has an adverse effect on foliage which has led to it pooling up in low lying places where it was deployed, which causes the death of all but the hardiest of life. There is no known antidote or cure, but certain therapies can alleviate symptoms.

It is also said to have an odor similar to ethanol, which is hard to remove.

History

First uses

Fucsya's initial form was as a harsh disinfecteant invented and produced by the ÆQ Kemmigindystri company. Unless diluted, it would cause highly unpleasant effects. Fucsya was presented to the Sahren Royal Armed Forces in 2138 to lessen casualties in urban combat when used as an incapacitation weapon. A small production run began in 2139 and certain units were equipped with Fucsya grenades. During the Pozhar Revolts, soldiers had many praises of the weapon, thus a larger order was placed and plans were drawn up to equip them as a standard weapon.

Sahren Civil War

2144-2146 saw the highest usage of Fucsya to date, as all Civil War factions used them in a vast variety of formats. The grenades became the weapon of choice for partisans in urban centres, Fucsya shells were developed for artillery, and they made the formula heavier to sink into trenches, forcing inhabitants to choose between death by machine gun or by choking.

During this conflict Ælin Sharpe famously found The best predictor for the veterancy of a soldier was the characteristic purple discolouration of particular tissues.

If there is none, they were recruited less than a month ago, if there is faded discolouration, three months ago, if the majority of the nailbed was discoloured, one year. Completely black discolouration was only found among those severely posioned.
—Doktyirpærceæ Sharpe

The renowned author Rory-kæ Abzalev also published his experience after being blinded and deafened by a near-fatal gas attack, stating :

In agony, I cried out for help. If it would come from a Klensagradite or a Sahren I no longer cared, but it was irrelevant for nobody ever responded. It was as if in the midst of the nightmare I had been brought to a special purgatory, a silent and isolated world with neither demon nor comrade. I think that was the first time I ever felt peace during the war.
—Rory-kæ Abzalev, Withering of a Cynaz.

Many partisans were killed in the Siege of Slovale and Operation Tetraethyllead by the usage of Fucsya to clear sewers and other subterranean areas.

Other miscelaneous uses

During the Vagani Campaign Sahren forces were still equipped with Fucsya grenades. These saw little use due to the nature of battles in this war. By the time of the 2150 election, the Sahren Republican Guard no longer purchased new Fucsya based weapons as a cost saving measure.

During the War of Imperial Reclamation many of the Kralnov Battalion arrived with their chemical warfare kits and utilised such weapons in combat.
