The AV-type-48 Meteor is a main battle tank originating from Sahrland. They were created to replace the Kerch cavalry tank, but their drawn out design and production process led to them supplementing the larger Kerch force.
Design and production
Object-2148
Rising tensions over Kafrica in 2148 led to a reevaluation of the Sahren Republican Guard and a short increase of funding as the Sahren and Phoenian governments suspected a war could break out at any moment requiring their intervention. In this it was found the Kerch cavalry tank had been surpassed by other powers since its last usage in a conventional war, along with deficiencies known from the Sahren Civil War and the Vagani Campaign which was still ongoing at the time.
Early development was plagued with disagreements over the requirements of the new vehicle. The Republican guard wanted a larger vessel to carry heavier armament while retaining the same mobility and protection while the Korych favoured the traditional cavalry tank doctrine to make parachute and amphibious assaults easier. Neither could not decide between the IRM-102 and IRM-125 for the guns.
The period of crisis was resolved before most of the disagreements could be resolved, however a chassis was by this time designed which fulfilled the requirements of the Republican guard.
