United Fusion, officially registered as Comhleáontas, is an Tekkian fusion power hardware and energy company. As of 2200, it is the primary energy provider for Aontas, Grestin, and the island of Bastio.

History

United Fusion was founded in 2017 as a fully private venture in the deepest segment of the Great Decline, a period when the Tekkian state had little capacity to direct major industrial undertakings. Its founders capitalized on the urgent demand for stable and abundant energy by pursuing commercial magnetic confinement fusion, a field that until then had been largely confined to theory.

By the 2030s, United Fusion had commissioned the first grid-connected fusion reactor in Cath, establishing itself as a cornerstone of Kerbin’s post-Decline recovery. The reliable output of these plants played a pivotal role in stabilizing Aontas’s industrial and infrastructural base, while concurrent efforts elsewhere stuggled:

  • Treposia’s inertial confinement program collapsed before viable deployment.
  • Laythia’s Tokamak designs proved uneconomical, supported into the 2050s by Syndicalist support systems.
  • SMC Stellarator-based projects were more stable but difficult to scale beyond the home island.
  • The UASR, where state-backed research had endured, reached comparable fusion maturity at similar early scale.

During the mid-21st century, United Fusion briefly expanded beyond Aontas, exporting technology and expertise to Solaria and the Mechani Union. These ventures were undermined by a combination of reduced demand driven by Project Exodus rise of strong local competitors as fusion technology diffused globally. By 2100, United Fusion had withdrawn from both markets, consolidating its operations back into Aontas Proper.

Despite this, the company’s domestic dominance endures. In 2200, United Fusion controls more than 70% of power generation in Aontas. An increase from 50% during peak serviced territory.
