The Ward-Cyten Z-95 Griffen was a multi-role fighter-bomber designed by the best and brightest minds of the Imperium and Zokesian aerospace companies. The design could carry an impressive load of ordinance at incredible ranges, making it a workhorse of ground attack and standoff power, but development was plagued by engine powerplant problems which left the Z-95 under powered for most of its service life.
Designed first and foremost as a heavy fighter that could also operate in the strike role, the Z-95 was powered by two J-45 Haverstram low-aspect ratio jet engines. The Griffin was origionall planned to operate the J-65 engine under development, with reheat and a new type of afterburner to boost that promised to boost power by nearly 25%. Sadly, engine development took nearly 20 years longer than planned, and by the time the G-model was fitted the Zokesian Air Force had lost interest in the aircraft.
Operational History
Surnay purchased the remaining 10 prototypes from Zokesia in 2084, and proceeded to order 200 more for operation as the mainstay fighter in their forces, seeing limited service in the North Kolus sectors of the globe primarily.
Following the collapse of Surnay in 2104, a handful of Griffins were shipped to the UIF for use in ground attack operations against Krome, before disappearing when the UIF collapsed later in the decade.
