The Fortis Class is a class of four Aircraft Carriers currently in service with the Vocavian Navy. It serves as Vocavium's most versatile and dependable aircraft carrier design, being sufficiently large as to be of significant strategic value whilst also being flexible enough to fill a number of tactical roles. The class was designed in response to the 2080's Naval Celerity Act which ordered the design and commissioning of many new naval units. As well as being the backbone of the Vocavian fleet, it was also designed to be exportable to a wide market of navies looking to expand their military capability.

The class was ordered and laid down in 2084 and the VSD was commissioned to produce the hulls. However, an order for the Caerellius Class from the had already been placed and prioritised, therefore the order was transferred to it's subsidiary company, Abyssal Shipyard Exports. Building on the lessons learned from the retired Thunderbird Class, an internal hangar and elevator was deemed necessary for maximising aircraft capacity. As such it equipped with a unique side-mounted elevator to allow for more deck space for aircraft manoeuvres. An angled flight deck was also incorporated to increase the efficiency of flight deck operations, as aircraft are able to take-off and land from distinct areas of the deck. The large deck and internal hangar can house over 50 aircraft of varying roles and types, offering enormous tactical flexibility for engaging aircraft, ground targets and reconnaissance. The class is distinguished by it's slender but long flight deck in comparison to the decks of contemporary vessels.

Service History

2085-Present

The VN Hard Castle was launched in early 2085, followed by her three remaining sister ships, with the final ship of the class, the VN Broad Canyon, successfully launching in early 2086. The four ships have since remained near to Vocavian shores awaiting their complement of crew and aircraft, as well as their official orders.
