Design
As one of the first Black-Water warships designed for the Atreus Aerospace Command (AASC) following the Belkan Civil War, the Raven class Heavy Frigate was originally meant to be classified as a Destroyer. However, with contracts for Destroyers being already awarded to Odyssey Aerospace, Northwind Aerospace reapplied for a contract under the Multi-Mission Frigate program with very little modification to the original design, contributing for its highly abnormal size and tonnage for a Frigate. However, desperate for ships to fill the holes in doctrine, the AASC accepted the Raven at its massive size, primarily considering its high thrust-to-weight ratio and small width and height.
Compared to other ships in the AASC's fleet, the Raven class has many comforts for its smaller, but still numerous crew. This includes larger living areas, wider bulkheads, and other accommodations not found on other ships in the fleet.
Development
Following the end of the Belkan Civil War, the newly formed AASC immediately began looking for ships to rapidly fill its ranks as they began looking outwards into the Kerbol System. With contracts already awarded for many other ship classes, Northwind, desperate to secure their involvement with the new branch, Northwind submitted a design study recently carried out for a Destroyer into the Multi-Mission Frigate (MMF) program for the AASC, which was awarded in 2190.
Concerns were raised in the Admiralty regarding the size of a "Heavy Frigate" (which was meant as a Heavy Destroyer originally.) but due to the lack of a better option, the Admiralty reluctantly agreed to coo
