The Hymettus Class is a class of Destroyer in service with the Vocavian Navy. Derived from the ageing Aegir Class of Alectonese origin, the Hymettus was intended as its successor, being a ubiquitous and powerful surface ship used by many navies and offering versatility in a number of roles. 5 Ships were ordered for the Vocavian Navy, of which all have been completed. 5 more ships were also ordered by Grestin, which are currently under construction.
Design
The Hymettus Class were designed to substantially bolster the Vocavian Navy in both numbers and capability. The Vocavian Navy issued a request to all shipbuilders for a Destroyer that would be capable of engaging both surface ships and targets inland utilising guide missiles. The Vocavium Shipbuilding Department (VSD) and Ventus Propulsion both submitted designs, and Chieftain Shatter-Horn personally selected the former. The proposed design was heavily influenced by the Aegir Class, originally developed by the now departed Alectonese Navy, though still serving in several navies today. The hull and superstructure were retained in physical structure, though were enlarged to accommodate more fuel and munitions.
A crucial distinction between the Aegir Class and the Hymettus Class is the method of propulsion. Where the former utilised water jet technologies, the Hymettus incorporates an electric engine system that is now a staple of Vocavian designs. This affords unparalleled range and speed, as well as generating ample electric to power the ship's many systems.
Service History
2083-Present
The Hymettus Class entered service in 2083 with the launch of the VN 'Varasova', which underwent sea trials on a 10 day patrol of Vocavian littoral waters. The remaining 4 ships were launched shortly after, and all ships of the class subsequently convened to perform a combined patrol exercise.
