The Sahren Republican Guard of Internal Affairs (Sahrina Republina Garda ot Ishki Ocæds) is the intelligence and investigative branch of the Sahren Republican guard. It was founded in 2144 to secure military intelligence and to investigate criminal activity in the military. From 2146 onward the SRGIA expanded to external paramilitary operations in order to aid in the Vagani campaign. Further operations after the campaign were conducted to hunt down civil war leaders and figureheads. The agency is subject to many possible controversies such as assasinations, attempted coups, weapons smuggling, propaganda, wiretapping, and torture.
History
Civil War
The SRGIA was created in 2144 to ensure security of newly occupied territories in the Civil War and ideological loyalty of troops. SRGIA field troops were also used as a military police force to keep order. This included tasks such as policing labour camps, requisitioning supplies under war communism laws, detaining political opponents, putting down rebellions, and preventing mutinies. After the civil war the SRGIA transferred a majority of these duties to civilian run institutions.
Vagani
In the Vagani campaign the SRGIA shifted to maintaining censorship laws and covert operations against the United Front. The SRGIA was crucial in the recruitment and training of local tribes in Vagani, along with carefully ensuring that any information released was harmless.
Witchhunts
Witchhunts for civil war leaders occurred as soon as the War ended. Small scale persecution of field commanders, usually those which were war criminals, was so prevalent the figure of individuals is hard to estimate. A large amount of civil war leaders escaped into other countries. These were considered to be dangerous elements to the stability of the state and were persecuted in infiltration campaigns until the 2180s.
Aughtafael coup
- Main Article: Aughtafael coup
By 2197 the Commonwealth of Sahrland and Bastia was in a period of decline for thirty years. Geopolitical interests also presented its challenge as Bastia wanted to pursue Zokesian interests and Sahrland wanted to pursue Aontan interests. The governments of both nations attempted to suppress opinions of separation which only caused a lack of meaningful reforms. In 2195 the Republic of Bastia had elected Serra Cisâo, which planned to enact reforms that would cause liberalization of the economy, abolishing the methods of media suppression, and a referendum addressing the fate of Bastio. The SRGIA along with a portion of the Bastian army planned a coup to prevent the reforms from passing. The coup lasted for 3 days and was catastrophic, facing opposition by the Sahren Korych, Bastian civilians, and Zokesian armed forces. After this incident of institutional disloyalty the SRGIA had funding slashed severely. Those who participated in the coup were arrested.
