Shive, officially the Grand Duchy of Shive, is a city-state situated on East Kolus along the Western Norian Steppe by the Sea of Aontas with Neo-Mechani to its immediate north. The majority spoken language is Namjjog. The country's territory comprises of the Walled City of Shive and the entirety of the Shiven Isthmus.

Inhabited by early Kolun Kerbals since at least 22,500 BCE, its proximity to the sea and access to fresh water has permitted its continued inhabitancy by the late Proto-Mechani peoples and the modern Samagi.

As a city, Shive's trade and extensive naval history through the Sea of Aontas has influenced its maritime culture.

Shive is a developed country with emphasis on maritime commerce; it is heavily reliant on its state and civil fleet for defense and trade. Since the collapse of Mechani, it has reestablished the monarchy and become a protectorate of the Veiidic Commonwealth.

History

Prehistory

Early Kerbal inhabitance has existed since 22,500 BCE, comprising of migrations from the Western Norian Steppe. The Proto-Mechani developed a sedentary and agrarian lifestyle, sustaining off a pescatarian diet of maize and shrimp. Early Shiven dwellings were made of lumber and straw and skirted the Norian frontier as well as the coast of Shive.

Samagi Feudalism

Beginning in the 14th century, many Samagi clans roamed the Shiven Isthmus. Clashes would occur between the tribes over the limited area of Shive as well as Henshi, ending in the 16th century.

Shiven Piracy

With the transportation of second line ships from Kafrica in the 17th century, piracy would become a prominent industry for the next two hundred years. Pirate coalitions were formed between clans. Using an archaic form of feudalism, manpower was allocated to ship building. Agriculture reemerged with the spread of parasites among the fish within the Aontas.

Shiven pirates would patrol coastal waters and the Sea of Aontas. The pirates employed one of the earliest forms of impressment. As well as naval superiority, the "pirate republics" would build multiple coastal batteries, most notably, Fort Moraeseong.

Following a devastating storm near the coasts of modern day Solaria, the subsequent Battle of the Aontas in 1814 led to the catastrophic rout of the pirate flotilla. With the navy unable to pay its sailors, rampant crop failure, and mutinies across the fleet, later led to famine in the mainland.

Late Feudalism

The anti-pirate coalition imposed excessive reparations on Shive, taking "almost two centuries" to pay off. Two Houses, the House of Noria-Mechani and the House of Henshi would emerge in the mid-19th century, both having a claim to the throne of Shive.

Fall of Shive

With the House of Henshi's claim to the throne was usurped by the installed house of Shive-Henshi. The monarchy became unpopular, with the Social-Democratic Front emerging as a threat to the new house. Unrest was prevalent among the Shivs, with the monarchy retreating into Fort Moraeseong in 2008. By now, the SDF assumed de facto control over most of the Shiven Isthmus.

Siege of the Walled City

The Siege of the Walled City, also known as the Siege of Shive, was a military operation conducted by the First Mechani Union. The walled city, containing Fort Moraeseong, was besieged for three years. An extensive network of smuggling routes allowed supplies into the Walled City, enabling the five hundred guards to survive the duration of the prolonged siege.

In 2011 negotiations between the SDF and the monarchy soured, causing the SDF to breach the Walled City. The royal guards retreated to Fort Moraeseong, prolonging the siege by three days before the House of Shive-Henshi capitulated.

The House of Shive-Henshi was disbanded, and the former Grand Duke was imprisoned.
