Shive, officially the Grand Duchy of Shive, is a city-state situated on East Kolus along the Western Norian Steppe by the Sea of Aontas with Neo-Mechani to its immediate north. The majority spoken language is Namjjog. The country's territory comprises of the Walled City of Shive and the entirety of the Shiven Isthmus.
Shive has been inhabited by early Kolun Kerbals since at least 22,500 BCE. Its proximity to the sea and access to fresh water has permitted its continued inhabitancy by the late Proto-Mechani peoples and the modern Samagi.
As a city, Shive's trade and naval history through the Sea of Aontas has influenced its maritime culture.
Shive is a developed country with emphasis on maritime commerce; it is heavily reliant on its state and civil fleet for defense and trade. Since the collapse of Mechani, it has reestablished the monarchy and become a protectorate of the Veiidic Commonwealth.
History
Prehistory
Early Kerbal inhabitance has existed since 22,500 BCE, comprising of migrations from the Western Norian Steppe. The Proto-Mechani developed a sedentary and agrarian lifestyle, sustaining off a pescatarian diet of maize and shrimp. Early Shiven dwellings were made of lumber and straw and skirted the Norian frontier as well as the coast of Shive.
Samagi Feudalism (1300-1816)
Shive's proximity to the Sea of Aontas allowed for the foundation of many Samagi clans. Clashes would occur between the tribes over the limited area of Shive as well as Henshi, ending in the 16th century.
Shiven Piracy
With the transportation of second line ships from Kafrica in the 17th century, piracy would develop within Shive. Pirate coalitions were formed between clans. Using an archaic form of feudalism, manpower was allocated to ship building. Agriculture reemerged as a prominent industry with the spread of parasites among the fish within the Aontas.
Shiven pirates would patrol coastal waters and the Sea of Aontas. The pirates employed one of the earliest forms of impressment. As well as naval superiority, the "pirate republics" would build multiple coastal batteries, one such battery being Fort Moraeseong.
Following the Battle of the Aontas in 1815, the pirate flotilla was obliterated. Famine would set in the mainland with the navy unable to pay its sailors, resulting in munities that shattered the cohesion of the fleet.
