Design
Designed with cost-effectiveness and multi-mission capability, the Siren Class is a ship focused on practicality, built around its hangar on the ventral side of the vessel, as well as its Mark III Magnetic Accelerator Cannon which runs along the centerline of the ship, above the hangar.
Doctrinally, the Siren serves as the Flagship for escort formations, as well as patrols made up of smaller vessels such as Destroyers, Frigates, or Corvettes. Additionally, due to its nature as an Escort Carrier, the Siren provides these formations with a sizable fighter compliment as defense against other void-craft, while also being able to launch offensive strikes against other ships.
Development
With the contract for a new light/escort carrier being announced after the end of the Belkan Civil War, the Siren Class was the earliest carrier contract given by the Atreus Aerospace Command (AASC) with the contract being awarded to the Odyssey Aerospace Design Office (OADO) in Mid-2190 as Odyssey began securing contracts for various AASC vessels.
However, the OADO lacked the experience in designing Black-water vessels that other nation's design offices possessed, lending to the Siren's "unique" shape and appearance.
With thought in mind that the Siren was to be an escort carrier, she was designed originally with a lack of high thrust-to-weight ratio, but makes up for this with a larger compliment of interceptor missile mounts, comparable to a cruiser of a similar size. This is not out of the ordinary however, as the original hull for the Siren was made in a design study with OADO as a light/heavy cruiser concept.
Service History
Upon receiving the Sirens, they were received with mixed opinions. Some crew's preferred the design of the ship, but many complained about the cramped quarters due to the heightened crew requirements compared to other ships in the AASC.
However, despite the controversial reception, upon the first "cycles" of the new carriers, crews began to report more positively as they settled into their new vessels.
