The Invasion of Nuriyamiq, also known as the Holiday War, was a conflict between a rogue Stahl Sieg battalion and the nation of Nuriyamiq, along with Coalition allies. The name "Holiday War" comes from the notion from all sides that the conflict would be over quickly, and that each side would win decisively and be home for Kristmas.
Background
29th SS. Goes Rogue
The morning of November 6th, Elohim notified Zokesian high command that Stahlsieg units, adorned in black, began crossing the border from Elohim into Nuriyamiq. The official spokesman of the Elohim military has stated no contact from the 29th SS. "Usagidanger Brigade" Pippakisten was reported prior to the departure. The Brigade was in Elohim earlier in the year to train with Elohim forces in cold weather operations, but it appears they had new orders and began driving east from the border. It is unclear what the cause is but the Stahlsieg were heard singing songs of plunder and bounty, as was talk of stripping the countryside bare for its fruits. Reports indicate the troops headed in the direction of Alubis and Dravan.
Novenad denounced this recent Stahl Seig action, with Prime Minister Ana Berislav calling it "a dangerous and worrisome act of aggression" in her press conference.
Following the unfortunate events involving the Usagidanger brigade the population of Elohim was outraged. The Elohim military began invading Nurmiyaq occupied by the ss to get them off the immediate border, and to protect kin within Nurmiyaq.
Timeline
Initial Invasion
As the Stahlsieg rolled east, an airbase was set up outside Dravan, and 50 AIF-42 Thronglers and 20 Yav-12 Spooky IIs flew in under cover of darkness from prepared storage in Stahlsieg hangars in Elohim. 20 fighters took off and headed west, clashing with Elohim Air Force AS-119s, and in a lopsided battle shot down twenty of the Elohim jets to lose only five of their own. Disaster would strike for the Spooky IIs, who had been hastily converted to ground attack and fitted with faulty seekers in their FLIR balls, and nearly a dozen were shot down by ground fire, doing only minimal damage to the Elohim jeeps rolling towards the border.
International Response
The first offensive strikes of the war were carried out by Hearthia, where a strike force took off before refueling over the cold northern plains before flying in from the east. Covered by Elohim jets to the west, the strike knocked out the airbase at Dravan and crippled Stahlsieg air power in the region, though at heavy cost to the strike force, with multiple aircraft being shot down and pilots having to bail out over enemy lines.
