The foundation of the Imperial Union traces back to the 2098 Tri-Lateral Security agreement between the nations of Orion Empire, Vocavium, and Reformed Westray, which was sparked by growing concern over the rapid genocidal expansion of KAFSOC to the north of Westray and Vocavium. The securtiy arrangment entailed a mutual-defence pact between the participant nations, as well as a stipulation for greater defence and economic cooperation. While the initial 30 year arrangement was set to expire on the eve of 2134, the unexpected threat posed by the newly formed Krosterreich prompted the 3 nations to instead renew their security arrangements by another 15 years, with the inclusion of the Firesvar nation [[Celeste|Celeste.]] The inclusion of Celeste was initially met with skepticism and controversy, particularly in Kafrican circles whom mostly viewed the inclusion as the Orion Empire's discrete attempt to further consolidate power. Despite the understandable doubts over the new addition, Celesi construction and logicistic expertise would prove to be a valuable asset for the participant nations, enabling the two Kafrican nations to mitigate the devastation of the Kolusian Dust Bowl and Krosterreich-Vieno war of the late 2130s.

The invasion and subsequent genocide of the Vocavian population by the KAFSOC regieme had decimated the population by early 22nd century. The slow-bombing of the Vocavian capital, Windsteer, only exacerbated the issue, leading the nation into a demographic and economic collapse by 2100. In order to avoid a complete implosion, the Vocavian government would formally sign the Treaty of Windsteer in 2102, relinquishing official control of Vocavium to a joint provisional government under Reformed Westray and the Orion Empire. Within the newly established government, the Orion Empire assumed control of the administrative duties and defence of Vocavium, while the neighbouring and culturally aligned Westray began culturally and economically aligning Vocavium to gradually repopulate the nation.

With the reconstruction of destroyed cities and urban areas, the nation experienced exponential increase in population as Vocavians whom had sought refuge in Westray became more inclined to migrate back to their homeland. The governments of Orion and Westray also implemented massive subsidies and public campaigns to encourage settlements in Vocavium, leading to record-breaking levels of immigration in newly constructed New Windsteer and other major Vocavian cities. The drastic shift in demographics raised concerns over possible ethnic tensions, prompting persistent promotion of a pan-Westrayan identity by the Vocavian and Westrayan government. Utilising the rising popularity of Engelism within Westray, the Westrayan and Vocavian people were presented by their respective governments as "inseperable brothers... with one history, one culture and one language".

The Imperial Union is a constitutional monarchy and a parliamentary democracy, operating under a unified and codified constitution as of 2200. As a parliametary democracy, the nation initially did not posess a formal constitution. However, following the 2154 constitutional and head-of-state crisis, the former state and dominion-level constitutions were unified into a new national constitution under the interim Horgen government. Also known as the 2155 Constitution, the newly written constitution would become officially recognised by the central government and local authorities after a successful national referendum in late 2154.

As a bicameral entity, the Imperial Parliament is composed of the lower house (National Assembly) and the upper house (Imperial Counsel). The National Assembly consists of 648 proportionally elected members of parliament, each representing a unique constituency in the empire which elects them for a 4 year term. The Imperial Counsel has a grand total of 204 counsels; 36 from each of the 5 dominions and 12 from each of the two colonies. Counsels, also referred to as senators or senior MPs, are elected for a maximum of 8 years. Due to their longer terms, only half of the upper house (102 seats) are put to election every electoral cycle.

Under the reformed 2155 Constitution, a government must be formed by a party or coalition with an absolute majority of seats in the National Assembly; else an automatic re-election is triggered nation-wide. Such an event has only occured once in Imperial history in 2199 when the two major parties, the centre-left United Labour and centre-right Entente, failed to agree on a grand-coalition to form a legitimate government.

Preferential voting has been utilised in all levels of the Imperial electoral system since the formation of the Imperial Electoral Commission (IEC) in 2149, an independent statutory agency of the Imperial government responsible for the management and supervision of Imperial and dominion-level elections. The IEC is also tasked with enforcing the nation's compulsory electoral policy, which mandates every adult over the age of 16 to be a registered voter.

===Subdivisions===
The Imperial Union has five dominions - Canstana, Celeste, Orion, Vocavium and Westray - and two colonies - Svarskia and East Hook- and one protectorate - Atlas.

The five dominions function as states with limited power; while they are given extensive legislative freedom, Imperial policy or legislature is codified by the consitution to override if there are any conflicts. Similar to the Imperial government, the dominions elect a bicameral parlimanet in a 4-year cycle, where the governing party or coalition elects a Premier to rule the dominion.

The colonies, on the other hand, are not represented by an upper house in their respective governments. While their regional assemblies are still tasked with legislative duties, colonies are governed by a Governor-General personally appointed by the Emperor. The colonial assemblies only posesss the right to affirm the Imperial candidate into office.

As a protectorate, Atlas is only integrated militarily into the Imperial administration, and are largely free from what is often described as "overt centralisation" of the Imperial Union.

The nation's name originates from the native Vocav-Westrayan word ''West-rêch'', translating into "Ridges of the West", referring to the mountainous terrain of West Westray that dominate the landscapes of Northern Vocavium and Westray. The name has caused much confusion in the modern day as popular misconceptions mistake Westray as a "west-Kafrican" nation contrary to its true position in the East.

Westray is located on the eastern section of the Westray Peninsula, bordering Vocavium to its west and Elysium to the north across the Great Haldern Mountain range. The close proximity to Vocavium and connection via the K'yangtze river and surrounding plains have resulted in an intricate intertwining of the two nation's histories, cuminating in a shared Vocav-Westrayan culture.

Domestically, Westray resembles its western neighbour in its abundance of fertile plains and mountain ranges. The northern provinces of the nation are interrupted by the Great Haldern Mountain range that runs from the coast of the Tau Sea to Vocavium's Avem Mountain range, and was thus vastly underpopulated and underdeveloped compared to their southern counterparts for most of history. Modern archaeology and historical analysis suggests that the proto-Vogelic religion originated from animistic worship from the mountain tribes of current-day Vocavium, spreading to Westray during the Great Nomadic Period. While a small minority of Westrayans and Vocavians still follow the modern equivalent of proto-Vogelism to this day, the religious landscape of the Westrayan peninsula has since shifted in favour of the ''Engelhafts''.

''Engelhafts,'' also known as Angelics, are proponents of the dominant Westrayan religion of Angelism. The ''Evangelium'', the primary sacred scripture of Angelism that documented its birth, records the first ''Engelhaft'' to be Lambert, son of Alfred, a school teacher in current day Windsteer. Verified historical records and excerpts from the ''Evangelium'' depict Lambert to be an ordinary man until his stark transformation at the start of 295, where he began depicting anomalously altruistic behaviour with an "unfamiliar yet comforting smile" (Initium 2:4) and claiming that he was "chosen by the great Thunderbird to spread the tantamount message of salvation" (Initium 2:21).

Reputable historical sources from the time period verify that Lambert was able to convert his small village of ''Milchberg'' over the summer of 295, becoming known to surrounding villages and proto-city states as the ''Earste Ingel'' (The First Angel). Journals recovered in archaeological expeditions near the presumed location of ''Milchberg'' depict Lambert as "a man who delivered the most energetic address in the most gentle way I have seen", attempting to convince the general population that "the Thunderbird loves us dearly and has chosen us to become Angels, the eternal servants of the sacred Thundebrird" (Recovered Journal of Lijsbeth of ''Milchberg'', presumed 293-299). Further archaeological evidence was able to verify the claims of the ''Evangelium'' that Lambert swiftly garned devout followings numbered in the thousands by the end of 297.

In the opening months of 298, beliving his purpose imbued by his deity was to spread the message of "angelic salvation", Lambert and 20 of his most devout followers would embark on a pilgrimage from ''Milchberg'' (present-day Central Vocavium) to ''Haelingwerf'' and Roodval, the two most prominent prot-city states located near the present-day Westrayan-Vocav border. Lambert's journey is presumed to have followed around the coast of eastern Vocavium and western Westray due to the populous settlements of the time period being concetrated on the coast. Chapters of ''Evangelium'' are dedicated to the recounting of the journey, detailing how Lambert was able to connect with and convert swathes of villagers he encountered around the coastal area. In one episode, Lambert is said to have summoned a bolt of lightning behind him as a show of power to interrupt an impending brawl in the town of ''Mereford,'' immediately stunning those involved in the brawl. The book of ''Reis'' in the ''Evangelium'' tells of how Lambert was then able to convince the hooligans invovled in the brawl that "they were all brothers and sisters destined to become Angels of the Thunderbird" (Reis 12:9), leading to the hooligans "kneeling on the spot and praising the name of Lambert and the merciful and loving Thunderbird".

====== Death of Lambert and Spread of Angelism ======
Upon arriving in the harbour city of ''Haelingwerf'', Lambert was "welcomed by a wave of residents who had heard of Lambert's messages ahead of him", which was "an unexpected yet warmingly welcome suprise" for Lambert and his group. The merchant guild leaders of ''Haelingwerf'' also provided support to the exhausted group, as seaborne merchantmen tended to be the most devout followers of the original proto-Vogelic religions. Despite the insistence of his followers and the merchants, Lambert would sleep with the peasants on the stone-paved harbour during his stay in ''Haelingwerf,'' reasoning that "the poor and the unwelcomed are too sacred angels of the Thunderbird. How could I ignore the very brothers and sisters who need me the most?" (Reis 28:5). The area of the harbour slept on has been preserved ever since his death to this day as a religious monument for devout followers.

Contrary to the warm welcome Lambert received in ''Haelingwerf,'' it was open hostility that he encountered in ''Roodval''. Unlike the loosely-governed merchant port of ''Haelingwerf,'' ''Roodval'' was a proto-monarchy led by the self-proclaimed King Godwine, who detested the openly egalitarian messages Lambert had been popularising throughout the peninsula. Paranoid that Lambert's presence would embolden the farmer peasants for a potential revolt against his rule, Godwine ordered the arrest of Lambert and his followers on the second day of their pilgrimage in ''Roodval.'' According to the book of ''Versuch,'' Lambert and his followers were assisting a group of farmers in their harvest when Godwine's guards arrived for Lambert's detainment. A brawl ensued as the farmers and Lambert's followers attempted to resist; as a result 3 of Lamberts followers were critically wounded and 1 killed.

Afraid that the population would rejoice further if Lambert were to be released, Godwine would declare Lambert's execution upon the charges of sedition. The declaration caused severe outrage from the peasant population and smaller nearby outposts, which only reinforced Godwine's paranoia that Lambert's sole aim was to deconstruct his absolute power in ''Roodval''. ==Development==
Under the consolidation of the respective navies of Orion, Celeste and Westray, naval doctrines and equipments were to be united under a new standard, new naval vessels being one of the solutions. The member navies at the time did not posess any dedicated ASW ships, and as such, the IRN's first official naval procurement program became the United ASW Frigate Program. Due to the signficance of the program as the first one to be organised under the new banner as the Imperial Union, defence corporations throughout the nations were heavily encouraged by both the IRN and the parliament to cooperate heavily with each other to produce the best outcome possible.

The program criteria outlined the need for sufficient VLS and torpedo bay space as well as hangar(s) capable of operating and storing 2 dedicated ASW units at all times. Speed was another significant factor for the design; the new design was to exceed 20m/s under rough seas in order to facilitate complex maneouvres when engaging unfriendly submarine units.

WIth the introduction of newer, more capable frigates such as the Orion-class, the fate of the remaining seemingly obsolete Acheron-Class frigates in IRN service seemed unclear. Fortunately for the ships and their crew, IRN high command elected to instead modernise the remaining ships to electronics and weapons system on par with the Orion-Class just entering service. The upgraded line of ships are often casually referred to as the Bcheron Class as the changes made to the hull and systems were signficant enough to be considered a seperate lineage of vessels.

The introduction of the Raldev Class to Imperial Royal Navy service opened up a new way of thinking for the military planners in both the navy and the Ministry of Defence, especially regarding its approach in contested littoral areas. While the Raldevs were sufficient as a cost-efficient area-denial tool in small bodies of water, their slow speed and lack of other capabilities created a gaping vulnerability in roles. ==Development==
Extensive governmental and independent investigations into Imperial naval doctrine and equipment following the 2150s NKR-IU crisis revealed that the IRN relied solely on its Carrier Strike Groups for area-denial, a devastating deficiency that would have posed extreme threat to Imperial naval and ground assets in minor seas such as the Baskay Sea. As such, the Interim Fast Missile Program was announced by the IRN in 2158, with all naval and heavy industries branches of VAE Shipyards participating in the program. The program specified that the new Fast Assault Craft / Missile boat be capable of detecting, engaging and damaging enemy combatants at a range greater than 40km independently while remaining cost-efficient enough to be fielded in quantity.

A number of varied designs both from within VAE and from external companies were received by the IRN, all with distinct design philosophies. VSD's design revolved around smaller USVs (unmanned surface vessels) that would operate and position under the FAC, while other designs opted for a more conventional design with varying missile-bay designs to accomodate large long-range cruise missiles in a small frame. Ultimately, it was Wagner&Co, a small VAE subsidiary that emerged victorious from the prolonged competition. Wagner&Co's design utilised pre-existing civilian hull to bring down cost signficantly while incorporating a unique extending launcher capable of housing a variety of anti-ship missiles.
==Design==
The unique missile bay of the Raldev-Class is usually occupied by 2 Kalibr Anti-ship missiles, the largest anti-ship missiles in Imperial service. Boasting a range of 80km and a powerful warhead protected from defensive fire, it would not be an exaggeration to describe the Raldev-class as a "glorified taxi for the stupendously large missiles". However, due to being based off of a civilian hull, the Raldev-class has a limited top-speed compared to others in its class as engines were downsized to accomodate for the large missiles and fire-control equipment in the bridge.
