Its atmospheric oxygen content is too low to survive for longer than a few hours and the surface, barren of flora or fauna, is wracked by extreme weather from superstorms to earthquakes and volcanic eruptions. Life in Selenya consists entirely of single-celled organisms adapted to feed on Ravos’ orange light; in its littoral zones and shallow seas, yellow-orange matts and wisps can be seen as pelagic archaea feed on the infrared and what little blue light the star emits while in its dark, inky blue oceans, archaea in the oceans twilight zone use entirely distinct blue-black photosynthesisers to take in any remaining light that may penetrate the surface layers.

Perhaps, were it a little closer, it may have been Selenya’s twin with its own life.

While some speak of putting a forward post there some day, the pressure to survive as is does not put much pressure to settle the planet any time soon.

== Development ==
The plane was the first new design for Aerfel Industries since it’s reactivation, and though starting from a clean sheet took many cues from its direct predecessor, the E9 Spectre. From the conceptual stage to its production and deployment, the program was advised by fighter ace and the company’s chief test pilot, Arcellian Kerman.

== Design ==
Despite the firm’s history of unconventional choices, many of the more unusual features present in its prior planes would be missing from the production Wraith, most notably the lack of a virtual cockpit and splitterless central air intake found on the E9. These concessions to normality are thought to be the result of a push to minimise manufacturing costs and difficulty in the still industrially recovering North [[Sarconia]].

Aerodynamically, the base model had a tandem layout and leading edge wing extensions, with the MAXIwraith taking on a three surface layout with the addition of a pair of uncanted canards. Initially envisioned as a true forward swept wing aircraft, this was changed early in the program to a W-wing configuration, principally to reduce Aeroelastic flutter but also in the interests of a lower radar cross section.

The aircraft was equipped with an internal 20mm autocannon mounted on the right hand side of the cockpit, and featured twin internal bays, each with a capacity for three air to air missiles. Optionally discardable external hardpoints for bombs, larger air-to-ground missiles or drop tanks could also be fitted, though were rarely utilitised due to compromising the Wraith’s radar stealth. The MAXIwraith contained an additional internal bay of similar capacity mounted ventrally underneath the cockpit - as well as up to three hardpoints for typical missiles, this could also be filled with a 105mm howitzer cannon for tankbusting and anti-ship operations. This weapon was uniquely used in an air-to-air capacity by the pilot known as the Ghost of Esperi throughout the Fall of Aquaria.

The MAXIwraith, though representing a large increase in capability, had several limitations and compromises compared to its lighter sibling. The positioning of the frontal weapons bay resulted in the nose landing gear being relocated rearward to the base of the intakes, reportedly making landings much more fickle a result of the shorter wheelbase. Many of the included upgrades came with an accompanying weight penalty, leaving the aircraft’s manueverability hampered, and though for the most part this loss was clawed back by new canards it was still notably less agile than the base airframe. In a similar vein, the plane produced 14% more drag in the MAXI configuration while still using the same powerplant, calling pilots to make more agressive use of afterburners - all harming combat range. Partially in response to its comparative vulnerability, an expanded electronic warfare suite was fitted by default to the heavier variant, which reportedly made the aircraft much harder to accurately track. F-77 Shrike pilots who engaged with the Ghost of Esperi in the MAXIwraith’s only significant encounter with representative modern fighters found it almost impossible to maintain a continuous lock on the plane at any distance while it’s weapons bays were closed.

== Conception ==
Frustrated by the popularity of the slow and cumbersome rotary-wing aircraft, Anton Kerman, leader of the WaffleTech Design Bureau, started to imagine a set of aircraft, similar, yet different from helicopters. Aircraft that required no rotors, whizzing across the battlefield.

Inspired by the many attempts at vertical takeoff aircraft previously developed by other nations, he formed a small team to produce his aircraft. They named it Project: ORCA.

== First Prototypes ==
The first aircraft of this type, the Orca Mark I, wasn't the best. It was perfectly fine in the vertical takeoff part, but controlling it in a hover was a nightmare. However, it showed promise, as it was able to transition to horizontal flight quite easily. For many years, they had restless nights, perfecting the design to what would become the first of its kind: the Orca Mark II, also known as the Orca Attacker.

The Orca Mark II was still hard to control, but was leagues better than the Mark I. Horizontal flight was on par with many attack helicopters, but they were satisfied by the results. They intended to sell these prototypes at a later date, but was unable to convince customers about its superiority over normal attackers.

At the same time, a heavier aircraft was produced, designed to carry battle tanks swiftly over impassable terrain anywhere from anywhere. It was called the Orca Carryall, since it was supposed to be able to carry all manners of vehicles. Control was a nightmare, and they are still working on how to make it respond better.

The last known Orca was the Orca Bomber, a tactical bomber designed to destroy strategic positions on the battlefield. It was the most promising of the three, being a breeze to control and land. With 4 unarmed bombs attached, it successfully hit a test dummy tank, a hole straight through the core.

== The Future of the Orca ==
While tests show promise, no one has been convinced of its effectiveness. There are still doubtful men claiming that they should stick to normal attack helicopters and strike fighters, rather than developing a new aircraft type altogether.

The team will never relent to the archaic way of thinking and lead the way for a rotorless future.

Though historically [[Spearka|Spearkan]] territory, the island has been highly contested since the 2060s, particularly by the nations of [[Aquaria]] and [[Zokesia]].

[[Aquaria]] initially guarenteed the independence of Fish Island in 2062, however this was judged officially void after the island melted. Nevertheless, it held a de facto policy of ensuring the iceberg did not fall outside the control of a Baskian nation. [[Zokesia]] has maintained a claim on Fish Island since 2062, and [[Feliskia]] likewise laid a claim in 2072, though the status of this is now dubious. in 2200, [[Ikonia]] reinstated it's Spearkan claim of the island.

It's an island full of fish, don't read too much into it.
==Geography==
Fish Island is located in Greater Baskay Bay off the coast of the Southern Ice Sheet. Like it’s much larger cousin Soltem, Fish Island is a topographic anomaly, it’s surface consisting entirely of an almost perfectly flat frozen sheet with no natural elevation changes, and it is believed that the entire above-water volume of the nation is solely comprised of ice. Sheer cliffs surround the island, rendering it only accessible by air and one of the most inhospitable places on Kerbin.

Despite being commonly misidentified as an iceberg, Fish Island is in fact a subaqueous butte, possibly laccolithic in origin. The 'island' itself is the tip of an igneous rock pillar that rises steeply over 990m from the seabed, protruding 70m above the surface of the ocean. Ice formations form along the pycnocline of the relatively deep shores, with the rocky outcrop acting as a nucleus for ice formation. As such, a layer of ice over 10m thick and extending hundreds of meters out to sea encircles the island.

This rocky core means that Fish Island can not be 'melted', as it is not entirely comprised of ice. However, it can certainly be diminished, and the island was almost entirely obliterated by a NMC kinetic bombardment which melted away the entire ice mass surrounding the rocky core. By the 23rd century, ice nucleation has progressed to the extent that the island has returned to 97% of it's original state.

Fish Island has no native animal life or vegetation, however the seas around it are unsurprisingly teeming with fish. In 2164, a Zokesian biology student who was studying the effects of the Antarctic climate on avian magnetoreception accidentally released a breeding pair of [[lyrus birds]] from their aviary. Having no natural predators on the island, the couple successfully progenerated a colony of the colorful birds across the territory. They subsist today on the oddments of the island's active fishing industry, being unable to feed directly from the sea like other pelagic birds. Having descended from a domestic pair, the population is well adjusted to kerbal interaction, and there are no known incidents of kleptoparasitic feeding behavior. As such, a flock of lyrus birds accompanying a ship is seen as a sign of good luck by the islanders, and their gentle melodies sooth and steel the hearts of the fishermen as they venture out across the frigid depths.

Fish Island is believed to have detached from the Southern Ice Sheet 3-6 centuries ago. For the vast majority of kerbal history since this event, Fish Island has been of no relevance, until the invention of aircraft sturdy enough to land on it at which point its strategic importance slightly increased but remained minimal. The first kerbal ever to walk on its surface was [[Spearka|Spearkan]] Golmajin Kerman, who landed his seaplane on the iceberg in the year 1990.

Fish Island first rose to geopolitical prominence in 2062 when the [[Zokesia|Zokesian Federation]] began a campaign to overthrow the island’s local government which culminated in a full military occupation. In response to the crisis, [[Aquaria]] partnered with [[Elysium|Elysian]] Army troops deployed within the nation on an overseas training exercise to liberate the island. Aquarian involvement was entirely overseen by its secret service [[C140]], which made the baffling and to this day poorly understood decision to exclusively employ various species of marine life trained and equipped with weapons in the opening attack. After a short naval engagement and shore bombardment, the aquatic servicemen overwhelmed and destroyed all Zokesian surface combatants and anti-aircraft emplacements present in the theater. A conventional landing was swiftly judged impossible, but within hours [[Elysium|Elysian]] armour was aerially inserted via imported Pelican transports and defeated the remaining occupiers.

Their victory over the invaders was short lived. As both sides geared up for another round of hostilities the ‘Fish War’ would be cut short by the NMC, which employed over 2000 orbital kinetic weapons to completely melt the island ostensibly to prevent further conflict. Fish Island would soon refreeze and be resettled by the Spearkan Federation, and enjoyed nearly 20 years of uninterrupted peace before the dissolution of its parent government. After brief fears of further Zokesian expansionist advances, the city-state opted to fully join the newly rechristened Republic of Aquaria.

===Second Fish Island Crisis===
Tensions surrounding the island resurfaced in the winter of 2114, when Zokesia publicly announced that its claim to the iceberg had never been officially rescinded. What followed was months of military build-up and posturing between Federation forces and the Aquarian Navy, though any climax was cut short by the sudden and unexpected bombardment and invasion of the Republic by North Sarconia on the 22nd of January 2115. The attack began with the sinking of Aquaria's flagship the [[AQN Lambchop T. Kerman (ANV-84)|ANV-84 ''Lambchop T. Kerman'']] leading the AQN's task force off the shores of Fish Island before any other more strategic targets. Historians believe this choice was most likely a deliberate attempt to false flag Aquaria into a two front war with Zokesia. This failed, but Aquaria was nevertheless paralysed into inaction over the island by the fear of such an outcome developing, and offered no further resistance when Zokesia seized the opportunity presented to it.

====Operation Cobalt====

10 hours after [[Sarconia|Sarconia’s]] declaration of war on [[Aquaria]], the sound of high-pitched jet engines shattered over 50 years of peace on Fish Island. The island's only official runway became home to nearly two hundred Zokeisan aircraft, their bunkers and runouts littering the island from end to end. For days the air controllers of the Zokesian Air Force were straining themselves, coordinating aircraft patterns entering and leaving the tiny island, where pilots had been sweeping the seas, searching for the Aquarian navy in the hopes it may be wiped out before landing at Fish Island. But the Aquarians, suddenly wrestling with invasion from the north, did not set sail for the iceberg. Large sections of the AQN 2nd Fleet would later be detected moving east for the Fortesal straits. The decision was made then to launch Cobalt II once again, with an umbrella of fighters sweeping out the defenders as Galliant II transports delivered troops to the island. Now, the fight was being taken to Fish Island directly, and soon the sky would be blacked out by Zokesian aircraft. Zokesian Galliants landed under minimal small arms fire, which was later discovered to be a single citizen firing his old service rifle into the air. the Fish island airstrip was taken and the troops of 6th SS. ''Braviserstgeboren'' swept through the city, removing any suspected pro-Aquarian citizens and ex-military personnel.

With [[Aquaria]] and later [[Zeoul]] falling to a resurgent [[Sarconia]], which does not lay any claim to the iceberg, Fish Island remains under Zokesian control as of 2199.
